November , 2025 – Technology & Application Update – Liquid silicone rubber (LSR) is transcending its traditional roles in sealing and shock absorption, evolving into high-value functional composite materials as technological advancements unlock new applications in medical devices, new energy vehicles (NEVs), and wearable electronics. The Chinese functional LSR market alone reached 4.26 billion yuan in 2024 and is poised to surpass 6 billion yuan by 2026, growing at a CAGR of over 18%.
The medical and healthcare sector has emerged as the fastest-growing end market for LSR, driven by aging populations and upgraded medical consumption. In 2025, this segment accounted for 32% of China's total LSR demand. LSR's exceptional biocompatibility—compliant with international standards such as FDA 21CFR177.2600, EU 1935/2004, and ISO 10993—makes it ideal for medical catheters, artificial organ seals, and other high-safety-requirement products. Its broad operating temperature range (-60℃ to +250℃) and low compression set (below 10%) further enhance its reliability in critical medical applications.
In the automotive industry, the shift toward NEVs and lightweighting has spurred demand for LSR components. Applications including sensor encapsulation, battery seals, and high-temperature resistant hoses are growing at an annual rate of over 18%. Technological breakthroughs have led to the development of specialized LSR variants, such as thermally conductive LSR with a thermal conductivity of 1.5–3.0 W/m·K, conductive LSR with adjustable volume resistivity (10⁻³–10⁶ Ω·cm), and flame-retardant LSR meeting UL94 V-0 standards—addressing the unique needs of electric vehicle systems.
Manufacturing efficiency has also improved significantly, with automated LSR injection molding now prevalent. Chinese rubber industry data shows that the number of enterprises adopting LSR injection molding has tripled since 2020, with equipment automation rates exceeding 85% and single-product molding cycles shortened to 15–30 seconds. Looking ahead, with policy support for advanced materials and ongoing R&D into semiconductor packaging and hydrogen energy sealing applications, the LSR industry is set to enter a new phase of high-quality development.
